    2nd February 2013 | by Lee Strand

Over four hundred people attended the Lee Strand Annual Social 50th Year Celebration on Saturday night at the Ballygarry House Hotel & Spa in Tralee. This year’s social was a significant celebration as it marked 50 years of the annual gathering of farmers, shareholders, staff and customers. The celebration was a wonderful evening of good food, great music and nostalgia as guests reflected on the past 50 years and remembered the first social back in 1963. On arrival guests were welcomed with a Jazz & Champagne reception in the beautiful Pavillion in Ballygarry, which was followed by a four course dinner in the banqueting hall. One of the highlights of the evening was the after dinner address by Mícheál Ó’ Muircheartaigh which had guests captivated and engaged with his wonderful memories. Everyone danced the night away with the well know Kerry musician Neily O’Connor and his band, followed by DJ Martin Howard. Robert and Betty Groves were presented with the Overall Milk Quality Award Winner 2012. Robert and Betty also excelled in the National Dairy Council Quality Milk Awards last year when they were short-listed amongst the top national finalists in the NDC Quality Milk Awards, which sets out to identify and reward the top dairy farmers in Ireland. Robert and Betty were presented with an Award for Excellence in Dublin in October last year. The evening also celebrated another milestone when a presentation was made to Teddy Lynch a past employee of Lee Strand who attended the first Lee Strand Social in 1963. Speaking on the night Brendan Walsh, Chairman, Lee Strand mentioned the important role dairy and the agricultural sector plays in the economy. He also thanked the customers of Lee Strand for their continued support over the years and also paid tribute to the management and staff of Lee Strand for their much appreciated work over the past year.
